Kamla riverfront emerges as Madhubani’s new leisure spot

Madhubani: Yet to be formally inaugurated, Kamla riverfront, just beside NH-27 on the eastern embankment near Jhanjharpur in the district, has already become a favourite site for youths of the surrounding areas. The credit for adding a new tourist hotspot in the district goes to Nitish Mishra while he held the tourism development portfolio in Nitish Kumar’s govt.Until recently, residents of Madhubani district had limited options for leisure outings with friends and family. That has now changed with the completion of a new riverside attraction. In a bid to boost tourism in Bihar, the state’s tourism department has developed the Kamla riverfront at Jhanjharpur. The Kamla riverfront is situated in a rural setting; the site benefits from notably low levels of pollution. Visitors report that the evening views are particularly striking, while the morning and evening scenery along the river, combined with the illuminated riverfront above, is described as impressive. The project has been completed at a total cost of Rs 3.66 crore. Facilities on site include a coffee house, restaurant, kitchen shed, street lighting, modern toilets, selfie points and decorative elements featuring traditional Mithila paintings. There is also ample seating for relaxation and leisurely walks. The location’s proximity to NH-27 makes it easily accessible for those seeking a peaceful day or evening with family and friends.District magistrate Anand Sharma said besides being a place of relaxation for the locals, the riverfront would also lure people driving down the highway for a short break and to have refreshments after it becomes operational.
