Gaya: Wire thefts are not uncommon, but attempting to steal an entire electricity transformer is unusual. A youth was electrocuted and his associate seriously injured while they were allegedly trying to dismantle an 11,000-volt electricity transformer to steal it in Deoria village under Kothi police station area late on Monday night.The deceased was identified as Md Ghulam Ahmed Raza of Badi Khap village under Imamganj police station area. His associate, Maqsud Khan of Bali Bathan village in Imamganj block, is undergoing treatment at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH).On receiving information, a Kothi police team reached the spot, rushed the injured youth to the hospital and sent the body to ANMMCH for postmortem.Imamganj SDPO Dheeraj Kumar said police were investigating the incident. “Prima facie, it appears that the two youths were attempting to steal the transformer when the mishap occurred. Further investigation is underway,” he said.Police will also verify from the injured youth whether the duo had brought a vehicle to transport the transformer after dismantling it, the SDPO said.
