ABVP activists jostle with police in Patna on Friday

Patna: Students affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest in Patna on Friday, demanding protection of democratic values and constitutional institutions. Demonstrators breached police barricades at J P Golambar and marched towards Dak Bungalow Chowraha despite security arrangements, including water cannons and riot control vehicles. The march began at Gandhi Maidan with activists raising slogans against what they described as attempts to undermine constitutional institutions. The protesters later reached Dak Bungalow Chowraha, where Delhi University Students’ Union president Yash Dabas joined them.Dabas climbed onto a police barricade and addressed the gathering despite heavy rain. Targeting those he accused of spreading anarchy while invoking the Constitution, he said, “There are a handful of people in this country who are working to spread anarchy. Ironically, these very people are carrying the Constitution today, despite their own grandmother having imposed the Emergency 50 years ago and murdered the Constitution.”“We are protesting against such people today. We want to remind them that this is Sardar Patel’s India, and it will remain united. If you want to turn this country into Bangladesh or Pakistan, you are free to go there,” he added. The situation remained tense as protesters continued raising slogans and attempting to advance, while police personnel maintained security at the intersection.
