Ara: In a joint operation, Bhojpur police and Bihar STF arrested three interstate arms and ammunition smugglers and seized 19,250 live cartridges of different bores and a pistol from a car at Kulhariya Toll Plaza under Koilwar police station area in Bhojpur district on Monday, police said on Tuesday.Bhojpur SP Awadhesh Dixit said in a news conference on Tuesday that acting on a tip-off received from the Bihar STF, a joint team of Bhojpur police and the STF intercepted a car at Kulhariya Toll Plaza on Monday. “The police seized 19,250 live cartridges of different bores from the possession of three interstate arms and ammunition smugglers,” he said.The SP added, “The raids are still going on in different states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and different districts of Bihar to bust this nexus and network of arms and ammunition smugglers.”Among the three arrested smugglers, Laltu Kumar (38) and Saras Kumar (27) are from Muzaffarpur, while Chandan Tiwari is from Siwan.According to the SP, the arrested smugglers had been associated with an interstate network of illegal arms and ammunition suppliers for a long time.“During the police investigation, the names of some persons have come up who have bought arms and ammunition from this interstate network of smugglers. However, since the raids are still underway, more details will be shared after the completion of the ongoing raids,” said the SP.A case under the relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act has been registered at Koilwar police station in this connection.
