Patna: A four-member Grand Alliance (GA) delegation led by RJD chief whip in the legislative council Abdul Bari Siddiqui met council chairperson Ram Bachan Rai on Wednesday and urged him to disqualify two recently elected Independent MLCs, Bansidhar Brajwasi and Rahul Raj, for allegedly joining the BJP in violation of constitutional provisions.In a petition submitted to the chairperson, the delegation urged him to uphold “impartiality and constitutional responsibility” and disqualify the two Independent MLCs from the council “without delay”.The delegation included three other GA MLCs — Rajiv Kumar, Shashi Yadav and Sunil Kumar Singh.Citing relevant provisions of the 10th Schedule and Article 191(2) of the Constitution, the anti-defection law and the procedure for disqualification of House members, the delegation sought action against the two MLCs. It also referred to the Supreme Court’s order in the case of Mahachandra Prasad Singh.The members submitted photographs, newspaper reports and other documents in support of their demand.
