Patna: CM Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday said criminals have no caste or religion and warned that anyone challenging the police would face an appropriate response. His remarks came amid a political controversy over the police encounter with the main accused in the recent assault and molestation of a minor girl in Jamui. The accused was shot at and injured during a police operation on Tuesday.“A criminal is simply a criminal,” Choudhary said while addressing a programme organised under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in Patna. Without directly referring to the Jamui incident or naming any political functionary, he said he was not concerned with caste or religion and asserted that the police would not retreat when confronted by criminals.Reiterating his govt’s commitment to the rule of law, he said development and justice must proceed together and asserted that Bihar’s police would respond firmly whenever criminals challenged the law.
