Patna: Bihar Police will intensify field-level policing, patrolling and monitoring of crime hotspots across the state, with senior officers directed to ensure greater accountability and closer engagement with the public.The directions were issued at a review meeting at police headquarters at Sardar Patel Bhawan on Thursday, jointly chaired by home department principal secretary Pankaj Kumar and DGP Preeta Verma. Nodal ADGs, IGs and DIGs attended the meeting.During the meeting, 36 senior police officers presented their observations after conducting field visits to the state’s 40 police districts. Crime-sensitive and strategically important locations were identified in each district, followed by discussions on strengthening policing and preventing crime in these areas.The meeting reviewed law and order, crime control, patrolling, prevention of narcotics-related offences and cybercrime, as well as other aspects of policing.Pankaj issued a strict warning to SDPOs, circle inspectors and SHOs, directing them to discharge their responsibilities without negligence. Officials and personnel found negligent in their duties will face disciplinary action as per rules.Senior officers tagged with different districts were directed to ensure night stays in their assigned districts and regularly review policing and law-and-order arrangements.Officials were also instructed to strengthen patrolling and maintain updated records relating to patrol duties. The meeting stressed the need to keep CCTNS, CCTV systems, police control rooms, district control rooms and wireless systems operational and effective.During the presentations, the ‘Good Morning Walk’ initiative of Kishanganj Police was highlighted. Under the initiative, senior police officers take morning walks with local residents and interact with them.The initiative was described as a positive effort towards strengthening police-public interaction, with other districts encouraged to undertake similar locally relevant initiatives.The meeting also focused on narcotics trafficking, particularly in districts bordering Nepal. Officials were directed to gather specific intelligence regarding organised narcotics cartels operating in the border areas and improve coordination among concerned districts and police units for effective action.Preventing cybercrime and narcotics-related offences was identified as a priority, with officials directed to ensure effective preventive and enforcement measures.To improve coordinated crime response, police were directed to take necessary steps to connect all two-wheelers and four-wheelers used by the police with Dial-112. The move is aimed at strengthening emergency response and reducing response time during police interventions.The meeting also reviewed compliance with court orders related to attachment of property. Officers were directed not to keep such orders pending unnecessarily and to ensure time-bound action according to the prescribed procedure. Negligence in complying with court orders would invite action under the rules.DGP Preeta Verma stressed maximum and effective utilisation of available police resources and called for an accountable and coordinated policing system to continuously improve crime control, law and order and policing standards.She directed police officials to strengthen security arrangements at tourist destinations and selfie points, including deployment of personnel and regular patrolling. She also stressed the need for ‘super patrolling’ to effectively monitor police deployment and patrol arrangements at such locations.Preeta further directed all nodal officers to organise public-interaction meetings at police stations to strengthen communication between the police and citizens.
