Patna: Treating women who have faced domestic and gender-based violence with empathy, rather than merely processing their complaints, must become a cornerstone of policing, ADGP (Weaker Sections), CID, K Suhita Anupam told 185 women police personnel and Mahila Thana in-charges from across Bihar on Tuesday.Inaugurating a three-day capacity-building programme on gender-responsive policing at Sardar Patel Bhawan, Anupam urged officers to adopt a sensitive, impartial and survivor-centric approach while dealing with cases involving women, girls and transgender persons.“Every woman who comes to us must be met with the same empathy and care that we would show our own family,” she said, while also stressing the need for moral and financial integrity among police personnel.Organised jointly by the Weaker Sections Division, CID, Bihar Police, CNLU’s Gender Resource Centre and UNFPA Bihar, the programme covered gender-sensitive policing, laws and procedures relating to women, gender-based violence and discrimination, and effective police responses.The sessions also focused on protecting the dignity and confidentiality of women facing domestic and gender-based violence, particularly in cases of marital violence and dowry-related offences. A separate module addressed the psychological well-being of police personnel.CNLU assistant professor Amit Jain, Allahabad High Court advocate Anchal Gupta and Aangan Trust associate director Ankit Macwan were resource persons. SP (Weaker Sections), Garima, CNLU-GRC director Ayushi Dube and UNFPA Bihar state head of office Khwaja Saadat Noor were also present on this occasion.
