Patna: The Patna high court has refused relief to 12 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Siwan, who were issued transfer certificates (TCs) as disciplinary action after they allegedly assaulted the principal and staff.A single bench of Justice Harish Kumar, while disposing of a writ petition filed by the 12 aggrieved students, described the incident as “disturbing and maligning the sanctity of the school”.However, the high court directed the school authorities to reduce the fine imposed on each student to Rs 5,000.The verdict, delivered on Oct 6, became public on Wednesday.The incident followed violent clashes between groups of students during the school’s Saraswati Puja celebrations. On Feb 12, the principal conducted a surprise inspection of hostel rooms. The next day, when the principal was about to meet the parents of hostel students, a group of students, including the 12 petitioners, allegedly assaulted him and other staff members and damaged school property.An FIR was lodged following the incident. Siwan DM, who is the ex-officio chairperson of the JNV committee, issued them transfer certificates.HC orders bail for Kashmir man: Patna high court has ordered the release on bail of a Kashmiri resident, holding that his arrest from Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir was unlawful and in violation of procedural laws. A division bench of Justices Rajeev Ranjan Prasad and Sunil Dutta Mishra passed the order on Tuesday while allowing the criminal appeal of Sarfaraz alias Muzaffar Ahmad Wani. Wani was arrested in connection with an alleged conspiracy to transport counterfeit Indian currency notes worth Rs 1.95 lakh from Pakistan through Nepal to Bihar.Man acquited in dowry case: High court has acquitted a man convicted of allegedly torturing his wife for dowry, after an RTI response from a temple trust raised questions over the alleged marriage itself. A single bench of Justice Prabhat Kumar Singh allowed Vishal Singh’s appeal and overturned a 2018 Darbhanga trial court verdict. The HC noted that the temple trust cited in the prosecution case was formed a year after the alleged marriage. The verdict, delivered on Aug 28, was uploaded on the HC website on Oct 6.
