Patna: Bihar police will soon launch a ‘Track Me’ feature on the 112 India app to monitor travellers’ journeys and check on their safety every 15 minutes until they reach their destination. Once activated, Dial 112 personnel will monitor the journey and check on the traveller’s safety every 15 minutes until they reach their destination.Police sources said the facility was being developed under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), which operates Dial 112. A trial has begun and police plan to make the feature available to the public before Diwali.Under the proposed system, users will be able to activate the ‘Track Me’ option and enter details such as their starting point, destination, mode of transport and estimated travel time. This will allow Dial 112 personnel to monitor their route.Once the service is activated, police personnel will contact the traveller every 15 minutes to check on their safety. The calls will continue until the journey is completed.Dial 112 emergency response vehicles deployed along the traveller’s route will also be alerted in advance, enabling personnel to respond quickly if assistance is required. The facility is aimed at providing an additional layer of security to people travelling alone or on routes where they feel unsafe. At present, a safe-journey facility is available to women through an offline process. A woman travelling alone or feeling unsafe can call Dial 112 and provide her starting point, destination, mode of transport and expected travel time. Police personnel then remain in contact with her and monitor the journey.
