Patna: The body of a 24-year-old woman was found at a village under Kalyanpur police station area of Samastipur district on Friday morning. Police suspect she was killed after being struck on the head with a heavy object. They are also investigating the possibility of sexual assault, though nothing has been confirmed so far.According to police, local residents spotted the body near a marshland, about 50 metres from a road near the Samastipur-Darbhanga bypass along an embankment and alerted police. A pair of jeans, a shirt and the woman’s slippers were recovered from the spot. She had sustained severe head injuries.Given the isolated location, police suspect the woman may have been brought there from elsewhere before being killed. Police said the condition of the body and the clothes found nearby have prompted an investigation into the possibility of sexual violence. However, officials stressed that the exact circumstances would be known only after the postmortem.“The possibility of sexual assault cannot be ruled out, but nothing can be said conclusively until the investigation and medical examination are complete,” Sadar-2 SDPO Sanjay Kumar said.The body has been sent for postmortem, and forensic evidence was collected from the spot. Police are examining all possible angles and gathering information from nearby villages. No complaint had been lodged by the victim’s family till late Friday evening, police said.
