Patna: A constable allegedly shot his sister and then shot himself at a rented house in Danapur in Patna district late Tuesday night. Both siblings died on the spot, leaving residents of the area shocked.The incident took place near the Mithila Colony turn under the Danapur police station. The deceased were identified as Omchand alias Sonu, a constable posted in Motihari, and his sister Gayatri Devi.City SP (West) Sanket Kumar, ASP Ajit Kumar and Danapur SHO Virendra Kumar reached the spot with a police team. The officers inspected the scene and began collecting details to establish what led to the incident.The SP said police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and were also examining the sequence of events inside the house. The exact reason behind the incident had not been established yet, he said.The bodies of the siblings were being sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation. The FSL team was also called to the spot to gather evidence.Danapur ASP Ajit told this newspaper that the constable (30) had been living in a rented house with his younger brother and two sisters for around a year. Gayatri had married in 2024 but got separated from her husband about a year back. He said she had been undergoing treatment for mental health-related problems. “It appears that the constable was under mental stress after his father and mother’s death,” he said.
