Patna: A former mukhiya’s husband, Javed Iqbal alias Mohd Guddu (50), was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Saharsa district on Monday. The incident occurred in the Behiyar area along the Sarbela-Mubarakpur road in the Banma Itahri police station area while Iqbal was returning from attending a wedding ceremony in Sarbela village. He was the husband of Umme Kulshum, former mukhiya of Harewa panchayat and a resident of Harewa village.As the assailants intercepted and shot him in the back, locals rushed him towards the hospital in critical condition, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.The victim’s brother, Aved Iqbal, alleged that an ongoing personal dispute and previous threats from a local youth, Sahil, and his associates led to the fatal attack.Saharsa SP Vikram Sihag said, “The incident occurred in some old dispute from a villager. An FIR has been registered against two named persons. Raids are being carried out to nab them.”
