Patna: The state education department is working to introduce one additional regional language — Maithili, Bhojpuri, Bajjika, Magahi or Angika — for students of classes I to V in govt schools, education minister Mithilesh Tiwari said on Tuesday.The move is being planned under the National Education Policy, with the department also focusing on skill-based and employment-oriented education, Tiwari said while reviewing its functioning at Vikas Bhawan.The meeting discussed allowing students who pass the Madhyama examination to pursue Plus-II studies through the Bihar Sanskrit Education Board. Necessary amendments to the relevant Act will be made, officials said. Around 24,000 students passed the examination last year.Tiwari directed officials to complete inspection reports of Sanskrit schools and madrasas within a month and conduct technical inspections of dilapidated govt school buildings. Engineers will inspect the buildings, while headmasters will upload photographs on the e-Shikshakosh portal.The meeting also reviewed the proposed Gurukulam Vidyapeeth in Simri, Buxar, for which five acres have been made available. Tiwari directed officials to ensure welfare scheme funds, including Kanya Utthan Yojana and Balika Protsahan Yojana, reach beneficiaries through DBT before Diwali.Education secretary Rajiv Raushan directed district programme officers (Establishment) to clear pending teacher service-related cases. Files pending for over 15 days will be escalated, with negligence inviting action, including dismissal.The meeting also reviewed 700 model schools and preparations for the ‘Mere Sapnon Ka Bharat: Seva Chitra’ state-level programme at Bapu Sabhagar on Oct 10.
