Patna: A five-month-old video showing a young woman being surrounded and assaulted by a group of youths at a railway station in Kishanganj has surfaced, prompting police to register a case and launch raids to arrest those involved.According to Kishanganj Police, the video was received on the WhatsApp of SP Santosh Kumar around 12.30am on Friday. The 52-second footage showed a group of around 8-9 youths surrounding a young man and a woman, while five of them were seen scolding and assaulting the woman.The SP said preliminary technical investigation established that the incident took place at Tulsia Halt railway station under Dighalbank police station. He immediately reached the spot with a police team and ordered an investigation.Five youths seen in the video have been identified as Afsar alias Hati, Zuber Khan, Mizan alias Salman, Kamil and Shahzad. Police said Afsar is currently in Gujarat, Zuber in Haryana, Mizan alias Salman in Karnataka and Kamil in Punjab. Raids are being conducted at their suspected locations, while the whereabouts and roles of the other accused are being verified.During questioning, the woman told police that she had gone to the railway station to meet a friend. Some youths from nearby villages allegedly objected after seeing her with a friend and questioned her about the association. The video also showed the youths asking her about her religion and assaulting her.Police said a village-level panchayat was held after the incident in the presence of the local mukhiya, where an attempt was made to settle the matter.An FIR has now been registered on the basis of the woman’s statement. A special investigation team led by SDPO-II, Kishanganj, has been formed to identify and arrest all those involved.
