Patna: Patna Junction Metro Station, which will connect the city’s two metro corridors and provide direct access to Patna railway station, has entered a key phase of construction with diaphragm wall (D-wall) grabbing work underway and reinforcement cage binding for the fourth D-wall panel in progress. Once operational, train passengers will be able to seamlessly switch to the metro for onward travel, reducing dependence on road transport.According to Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) officials, Patna Junction will function as an interchange between Corridor I (Danapur-Khemnichak) and Corridor II (Patna Junction-Patliputra Inter-State Bus Terminal). The underground station is being built with four entry and exit points, eight lifts and eight escalators. Its concourse will be located about 8 metres below ground level. The station will have two platforms, with the Corridor II platform constructed above the Corridor I platform.A subway link between the railway station and the metro station is also planned, enabling smoother movement between the two transport systems. The facility is expected to benefit commuters carrying luggage and those transferring from trains to metro services.PMRC officials said the ongoing D-wall construction is a crucial step in building the underground station box. “Diaphragm walls form the structural boundary of the excavation area and help support the surrounding soil and nearby structures during deep excavation. With reinforcement cage binding for the fourth D-wall panel underway, construction is progressing towards the next stages of underground station development,” officials said.Given the station’s location, traffic management around Patna Junction remains a key aspect of the project. Traffic diversions and changes in movement around Station Road and Dak Bungalow have been implemented in phases to facilitate construction in the congested area.Officials said Patna Junction would complement Khemnichak, the other major interchange station in the metro network. “While Khemnichak will connect the two corridors in eastern Patna, Patna Junction will serve as a crucial interchange in the city’s central area while also linking the metro network with the railway station,” they said.
