Railways cancels four Delhi-bound trains

Patna: The railways on a short notice cancelled four premier Delhi-bound trains originating from Danapur division falling under the jurisdiction of East Central Railway (ECR) on Friday, citing anticipated severe road traffic congestion around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations on Saturday.The move comes amid protests against chief election commissioner (CEC), although railway officials have not officially confirmed whether the demonstrations prompted the cancellations.A notification issued by Railway Board on Friday announced the cancellation of all mail and express trains scheduled to originate after 2 pm from the ECR jurisdiction and reaching Delhi between 4 am and 2 pm on Saturday. The sudden decision has caused great inconvenience to passengers who had booked tickets in advance on the affected trains, sources said.According to Danapur railway sources, the four premier cancelled trains were Rajendra Nagar Terminal-New Delhi Tejas Rajdhani Express (12309), Rajendra Nagar Terminal-New Delhi Sampoorna Kranti Express (12393), Rajendra Nagar Terminal-New Delhi Amrit Bharat Express (22361) and Islampur-New Delhi Magadh Express (20801). Similarly, the railways cancelled all other long-distance mail and express trains originating from or passing through other divisions of the ECR after 2 pm on Friday, sources said, adding the exact number of cancelled trains from ECR was not provided.
