Patna: A 48-year-old woman was shot dead near Pillar No. 17 of Nehru Path flyover under Airport police station area in Patna on Thursday evening. Police said an unidentified assailant allegedly opened fire on her near a private clinic where she had gone for treatment.According to police, the deceased was identified as Urmila Devi, wife of Ajay Singh and a resident of the Bikram police station area. Urmila sustained a gunshot injury and was rushed to LNJP Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.SDPO (Secretariat-II) Saket Kumar said, “Initially, people could not understand what had happened. She collapsed on the road and passersby thought she had fallen unconscious. As blood was oozing from her head, she was taken to hospital. During treatment, it was discovered that she had suffered a gunshot injury,” Kumar said. He added that the incident occurred in the busy Raja Bazaar area and the assailant had not been identified so far.The SDPO said Airport police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation. “Police teams are working to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify the person responsible. An FSL team was called to the spot to collect evidence, while police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas. Further investigation is underway,” he added.
